Raised in Sweden in the late 1940s as a cross between James Grieve and Worcester Pearmain - so a very distinguished parentage. Happily out-pollinates in flowering group 3. Katy is very productive and so may well benefit from an early season fruit-thinning, Very tasty flavour, but best picked and eaten as Katy is not that good for keeping. Early-season ripening, the fruit is usually bright red in colour over light green.

Plant Malus domestica 'Katy' in full sun and in rich, moist soil. Height will be in the region 3-4m on the MM106 rootstock.
