Stunning woodland specialist, with very dark, purple-black leaves and stems. In late summer, slender spires of sweetly scented, small, white flowers carried aloft on very tall stems which will attract late-season butterflies. Will thrive in organic-rich, moister soils, preferably in light shade. Native to north American deciduous woodlands. Actaea simlex 'Brunette' is fully hardy. The main clump of foliage will grow to about 50-75cm in height and spread but the flower spikes will grow to a height of as much as 1.8m.
