A low, clump-forming, semi-evergreen woodland specialist. Rounded or kidney-shaped leaves have deeply-cut, sharply pointed lobes, quite different from the rounded leaves of the more common H. nobilis, and which turn russet- red to purple in autumn. White flowers on relatively tall stems appear before the foliage in the spring. Fully hardy, and thriving in cool, woodland-like conditions - dappled shade and organic matter-rich soil. H: 25cm
