Sun-loving, semi-shrubby perennial that will produces loads of large clear magenta pink flowers over a long period from early to late summer on a vigorous rounded, spreading woody shrub. Nicely aromatic foliage and the bees will love the flowers as well.
Plant in full sun and well drained soil in a reasonably well sheltered part of the garden, preferably facing south. Clip back in spring to encourage fresh growths from towards the base of the plant. Makes a lovely pot specimen to enjoy on the patio throughout summer, and then over-wintered in a cold glasshouse or cold frame. Salvia microphylla 'Wild Watermelon' is very drought tolerant once established. H: about 1m
