Very fine evergreen large shrub or small tree, found in France in the nineteenth century by landscape gardener Francois Treyve. With rounded glossy green foliage, velvety red-brown beneath it forms a neater plant than the parent species .

Bears a succession of short-lived but stunningly beautiful pure white, fragrant flowers over several weeks during summer, especially during warmer weather.

Plant in full sun and in moist, fertile but reasonably well drained soils, improved with well-rotted organic matter, and consider adding a winter mulch of manure for the absolutely best results.

Fully hardy, Magnolia grandiflora 'Francois Treyve' has been recorded as surviving temperatures as low as -28C. Final height and spread about 3m.
