Small upright deciduous tree or large shrub, noted for gloriously coloured foliage. The young foliage emerges in shades of red and bronze, maturing to rich green in summer, whilst the vivid shades of yellow, orange and red-purple in the autumn are arguably the outstanding feature of this tree that should be more widely planted.

Small red flowers emerge on bare wood in spring, whilst in the winter the exfoliating grey and fawn bark is most attractive.

Plant Parrottia 'Vanessa' in full sun in moist but well drained fertile soils - chalk, clay, sandy or loam-rich soils are all suitable. Fully hardy, so can be planted in quite exposed sites with no problems, Final height wil be about 8m
