Recently introduced form of flowering cherry, bred in northern Japan by Masatoshi Asari. Produces masses of light pink double blossoms with green centres, hanging in pendant clusters on long stems. Early foliage has a greeny-bronze tint, maturing to mid-green, followed by a flush of golden yellow in the autumn. Suitable for smaller gardens as it has a spreading rather than upright habit, as suggested by the name.
Fully hardy, and grown best in rich fertile soils that are reasonably moist but do not flood in winter.
