A large, spreading deciduous shrub, or small tree, to 6m, with narrowly-ovate leaves. Nodding, cup-shaped white flowers up to 10cm in width, highly scented, with crimson stamens. The leaves are elliptic to lanceolate, with a softly hairy, cinnamon coloured underside. The flowers are pendant, about 10cmm in diameter, pure white and sweetly fragrant, with distinctive crimson stamens. Best in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist and well drained soils. Fully hardy.
Magnolia wilsonii grows wild in the moutains of eastern China and is considered to be threatened by habitat destruction and collection for medicinal use
