Very pretty small ornamental tree. Deep red buds open to large deep pink flowers in spring. Glossy red fruit age to orange and persist deep into winter, ideal for feeding birds in the coldest weather. Purple-green foliage. Best in full sun and rich, reasonably moisture-retentive soil. White Star is a lovely medium sized crab. There is a splendid show of white star-like flowers in the spring, which are scented and attract honey bees. The flowers are followed by medium golden-russet crab apples in late summer which persist into December. Hardy. Full sun preferred. Moist but well drained soil.
